      From the Office of Student Relations:
•Please make it a point to use crosswalks walking to and from school.  Both Eagle Canyon Dr. and Alena Way are extremely busy roads as students are coming to and from school.  For your safety please ensure that you are using the crosswalks.  School Police will also be patrolling around our school and will be writing tickets for students jay-walking.  Thanks for helping us ensure the safety of all of our students.  (Mac 1/13-2/3)                 ­­­­­­
1.     TMCC is offering a Coaching the Teen Driver class at SSHS for teens and parents on Feb. 3 from 6-8:30pm for $39.  Fliers are in the front office as well as the counseling office.  (Alejos 1/11- 2/3)

2.     Seniors…are you interested in a career in HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning)?  Apprenticeships are being offered locally!  See Mrs. Taveira for more information.  (Taveira 1/13-1/29)

3.     Seniors – the SSHS common scholarship application is due today, January 29th at 11:59pm.  You can go to the counseling office webpage on our school website and find the scholarship link.  Don’t miss out on the potential of winning some money for college.  Please see Ms. Hamilton or Mrs. Taveira if you have questions.  (Hamilton 1/13- 1/29)

4.     Students, if you missed taking any of your finals from 1st semester you will need to make them up by February 1st.  Arrange with your teachers a time to make them up.  If they are not made up by Monday, Feb. 1 your ‘incomplete’ will be changed to “F” so please make arrangements right away.  (Office 1/14-2/1)

5.      Athletic Clearances:  If you are interested in going out for:

GOLF (boys) – Coach Wirshing
SOFTBALL – Coach Davidson
SWIMMING – Coach Branson
TRACK & FIELD – Coach Mora
LACROSSE (boys) – Coach Ermann or Beadell
LACROSSE (girls) – Coach Tatro or Brothers
Come to the office and see Mrs. Sterett for clearing.  A clearance form or a “Quick Clearance Form” needs to be completed.  All clearances must be in by Friday, February 19th.  (Sterett 1/15-2/19)

6.     Homecoming week is here so make sure to show your best school spirit.  Twinz dance is  TONIGHT at 8pm so be sure to match with a date or friends.  (Faker 1/21-1/29)

7.     Seniors who plan to attend UNR and need help with Financial Aid – The Financial office will be hosting a financial aid night on February 3rd from 6:30-8:00pm in the Joe Crowley Student Union, 4th floor, Ballroom C.  The program will include:  financial aid/scholarship presentation, computer access to submit and correct your 2016-17 FAFSA, individual meetings with financial aid advisors, and information from housing, admissions, and scholarship departments.  Refreshments will be served.  Please see Ms. Hamilton in the Counseling office if you have questions.  (Hamilton 1/25-2/3)

8.       Students:  No one will be permitted in the dance this Friday without a SSHS student ID.  (Miller 1/26-1/29)

9.       If you are interested in coming out for the Boys Varsity or JV Lacrosse team, official practice starts Monday.  Beginners are welcome.  We have loaner equipment available for you to come out and give the fastest growing sport in the nation a try!  Come see Mrs. Beadell to bet signed up in room 228.  (Beadell 1/26-1/29)

10.                          The Cougar Den is going through a transformation and will be selling only district approved items.  We will be closed at lunch until we can re-stock.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  (Givani 1/26-1/29)

11.                          On February 5th at 7pm there will be a Bighorns Game.  If you want a ticket they will be given out at lunch for FREE.  (Faker 1/27-2/4)

12.                         Join us for our SSHS Senior Student-Athlete Signing Ceremony on
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at 11:45 in the SSHS Main Gym                          Lobby.  The following athletes will be signing their letters of intent:

13.                          Juniors, if you are interested in running for a Student Body Officers Position for next year, packets are now available in SRO.  Come get yours today!  Packets are due February 12th!  (Faker 1/29-2/5)

CONGRATULATIONS to the undefeated Spanish Springs Rifle Team who are ranked 22nd in the nation.  Good luck to the team for their upcoming Regional and State tournaments.  (Wales 1/29)

CONGRATULATIONS to the Spanish Springs Drill Team for winning the district-wide Drill Meet held at Hug High School.  They scored 1st place in 7 out of 8 categories against 11 district high schools.  (Mendenhall 1/26)
