v From the Office of SRO:  Please remember the dress code for SSHS students is as follows-
1.    No bare shoulders, which includes both boys and girls!
2.    Shorts and skirts are to be finger length or longer.
3.    No midriff showing at all.
4.    Hats off during school hours, leave them in your car or locker please.
If you do not follow dress code you will be pulled down to SRO & given something appropriate to wear. (SRO 9/14-9/30)

v Students!!! Please remember to pick up your hallways during passing.  Take pride in being a Cougar and help keep our Home clean.  (SRO 9/14-9/30)

v All Students must have their student ID cards with them at all times, including extra-curricular events. (SRO 9/15-9/30)

v Wireless speakers & music in the hallways are not permitted per district policy.  It creates a safety issue for all students & staff & an unnecessary disturbance in the hallway.  Speakers will be confiscated & a parent will have to come pick it up, there could also be some additional consequences.  (SRO 9/15-9/30)

v Tutoring is available in the Career Center on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2:45-4:00.  End-of-Course Prep is available from 2:45-4:00 also.  On Math Mondays & Scientific Tuesdays go to the Career Center, for Thematic Thursdays go to Room 214 for English End-of-Course Exam support.  (Cohen 9/9-9/30)

v Cougars!!! I’m sure you know all about Pokemon Go!  But did you know that it was created in Japan in 1995??  You can learn a lot more about Asian pop culture at the Asian Culture Club!  They are having their first meeting this Friday, September 16th, during lunch in Mrs. Kwasna’s Room 253.  There will be a Pokemon inspired carnival game to play & a chance to win a $15 gift card to Noodle Café!  Come see what ACC is all about!!!  (Kwasna 9/14-9/16)

v When attending athletic events & activities, please remember you are representing the school & the community.  Come out & support our teams in positive ways.  Inappropriate behaviors such as booing, taunting, use of profanity & disrespecting the players is unacceptable & will lead to removal from the events, possible bans from attending future events & consequences from the Student Relations Office. Use of air horns & popping streamers are also against NIAA policy & can lead to teams being penalized.  (Urmston 9/14-9/30)

v This year’s 2016 Fall Homecoming assembly is Cougars Got Talent.  If you would like to participate in the assembly, auditions will be held in Room 201 at lunch on September 14th & 21st.  (Faker 9/12-9/16)

v  PSAT will be given to all Sophomores on October 19th.  The test is available to Freshman & Juniors for $15.  The PSAT is a qualifying exam for the National Merit Scholarship for Juniors.  Please see your counselor if you are interested.  You may sign up in the counseling office with Mrs. Ruiz or online at the web store.  (Counseling Office 9/7-10/14)

v All Young Women who are interested in the Miss Reno/Sparks/Miss America Pageant, there will be an informational meeting on September 18th.  See Mrs. Taveira in the Career Center for more info.  (Taveira 9/6-9/16)

v SENIORS!!!  FAFSA is due in October this year!  Sign up with Taveira to have someone help you complete the FAFSA on October 1st at TMCC.  (Taveira 9/6-9/26)

v Our SSHS JAG students have chosen to make a large charitable donation to the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada this year.  They have also decided to volunteer their time for the Buddy Walk.  Any student can volunteer or participate at the Buddy Walk, which will be held at Reno High School on September 17th this year.  (Merrill 9/6-9/16)

v FBLA will be meeting this Thursday, September 13th, for officer elections.  Stop by Room 122 at lunch!  (Weible 9/13-9/15)

v SENIORS!!!!  Are you interested in becoming a Plumber??  Union Local 350 is taking applications for apprenticeships in this well-paying field.  See Mrs. Taveira in the Career Center for more info (Taveira 9/12-9/30)

v ZAPS test prep seminars will be offered in the Reno area in September & October.  Spanish Springs High School will host its own PSAT/SAT prep course on Sunday, October 8th from 12:30-6:00pm.  The cost of these seminars are $89.99 each.  Sign your student up at or Call 877-927-8378.  (Counseling Office 9/1-9/30)

v Do you need community service hours?  Earn your hours & contribute to a positive school culture by helping out after the next 3 home football games on September 23rd, October 14th & October 21st.  Talk to Athletic Director, Art Anderson to find out how & sign up.  (A. Anderson 9/14-9/30)

v Freshmen!  Are you interested in running for Class Officer?  See Mr. Bates in 117 for details.  Already got approved?  Make sure you’re campaigning.  Elections are on September 30th, so don’t forget to get the word out!  (Bates 9/15-9/23)

v Dodgeball is coming up on October 12th during the Wednesday of Fall Homecoming week.  Dodgeball packets will be handed out in Room 201 & will be due by October 11th.  Get your team together as soon as possible and come to Room 201 for any additional questions.  (Faker 9/15-9/21)

v TMCC is offering a Latino Parent Night taking place on September 27th from 6-8pm at the Dandini Campus.  A free 3-credit class is being raffled that night for those who participate & dinner will be provided.  Please see Ms. Hamilton if you have any questions.  (Counseling Office 9/15-9/30)

v Athletes!!!  If you are interested in trying out for a WINTER SPORT, come to the main office and pick up an Athletic Clearance Packet or a “Quick” form (if already cleared for a fall sport).  You must have your clearance packet or “Quick” form turned in by Monday November 1st!

v Attention all Athletes:
v  Effective immediately - All athletes who want to clear for sports this year (even if cleared for a fall sport) must do 2 things:
v  1.     Register online through “REGISTER MY ATHLETE”
v  Parents, Coaches and Administrators must set up a new account
v  1.      GO TO:
v  2.      Find school – Spanish Spring High School
v  3.      Create a NEW ACCOUNT
v  4.      Parents register their student athlete once and every year thereafter parents will MODIFY the account.

v  2.      Complete the Athletic Clearance Packet (if completed a Clearance Packet for fall, a “Quick Form” must be completed in order to switch from fall to winter and/or spring)
v  Athletic Clearance Packets and Quick Forms can be found in the main office or on the web site.


v To ALL of the Cougar Volleyball teams for sweeping Douglas High School on Tuesday!  The Freshmen and JV won 2-0 & the Varsity won 3-0.  A huge shout out for all of the fans that attended for Tuesday’s Varsity game, you guys are awesome!! The Lady Cougar Freshman Volleyball team also had a wonderful win against Douglas Tuesday.  McKenzie Lopez led the team in blocks.  Great Job Cougars!! ( Picollo & Sandomenico 9/15)
