·      There will be an open gym tonight for the Girls Basketball at 6:15 to 8:15.  (Villegas 9/6)


·       Seniors!!!  Are you interested in joining the Air Force?  The recruiter will be in front of the Career/College Center on Tuesday September 6th, during lunchtime.  Stop by and get all your questions answered!  (Taveira 8/31-9/6)


·      Congratulations to the Lady Cougar Volleyball team as they took 3rd place out of 40 teams this weekend in the High Sierra Volleyball Classic!!!  The Cougars now have a 14-3 record on the season & have their first home game tonight at 6 PM vs. Wooster.  Please come out & support the girls!  (Sandomenico 9/6)


·      Congratulations to the Cross Country Team for their performance at the Nevada Twilight Classic last Friday night!  Alexis Melendrez placed 4th & Daniel Horner placed 6th, smashing our 4000 meter school records!!  Also finishing in the top 10 were Matt Hakin with 7th place & Andrew Ribeiro with 9th place!!  For the first time in our school’s history our Varsity Boys took 1st place, beating McQueen by 28 points & are currently ranked #1 in Northern Nevada!!!!  Way to go Cougars!  (Beadell 9/6)


·      All Young Women who are interested in the Miss Reno/Sparks/Miss America Pageant, there will be an informational meeting on September 18th.  See Mrs. Taveira in the Career Center for more info.  (Taveira 9/6-9/17)
·      SENIORS!!!  FAFSA is due in October this year!  Sign up with Taveira to have someone help you complete the FAFSA on October 1st at TMCC.  (Taveira 9/6-9/26)


·      Our SSHS JAG students have chosen to make a large charitable donation to the Down Syndrome Network of Northern Nevada this year.  They have also decided to volunteer their time for the Buddy Walk.  Any student can volunteer or participate at the Buddy Walk, which will be held at Reno High School on September 17th this year.  (Merrill 9/6-9/16)



·      Sophomores!!! Truckee Meadows Community College is hosting a Job Awareness Fair for 10th graders on Friday, September 23rd.  You will visit the William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center at TMCC.  Students will be able to meet with representatives from many different Career & Technical Education departments.  Local employers will be on hand to speak to students about the field and job opportunities.  If you are interested please see Mrs. Ruiz in the counseling office to sign up.  (Counseling Office 8/22-9/9)


·      There will be an FCCLA meeting today at lunch.  Discussions for elections of chapter officers will be the topic today.  (Gach 9/6)


·      Hey Gamers!!  Are you interested in playing Video Games after school??  How about Super Smash Bros??  The Spanish Springs Smash Club is an after school club where you can meet up with friends and play Super Smash Bros competitively among other gamers.  The club is for Smash Players of all levels to come, chill out & play Smash for Wii U & 3DS, Melee, & Project M.  See Mr. Bates in Room 117 for details.  (Bates 9/2-9/9)


·      CTE Students- if you think you have what it takes to be a state or national champion, SkillsUSA will have their 1st meeting of the year next Thursday, September 8th.  Open to all Career & Technical students – SkillsUSA meets next Thursday at lunch in Mr. Bowers Room 118- see you there!!  (Bowers 8/31-9/8)


·      Seniors… TMCC will be in the College and Career Center on September 8th from 11:30-1:00 to help you apply to TMCC.  Financial aid/FAFSA info will also be available.  Sign up with Taveira in the Career Center or Ruiz in Counseling.  (Taveira 9/2-9/8)

·      Cougars!  Are you one of the most spirited students on campus?  Prove yourself in the student section at each sporting event to win a trophy & be announced “Most Spirited Boy/Girl” of the season!!  (8/26-9/9)


·      ZAPS test prep seminars will be offered in the Reno area in September & October.  Spanish Springs High School will host its own PSAT/SAT prep course on Sunday, October 8th from 12:30-6:00pm.  The cost of these seminars are $89.99 each.  Sign your student up at www.doorwaytocollege.com or Call 877-927-8378.  (Counseling Office 9/1-9/30)
