v Did you know our school is participating in a survey?  Go to www.studentvp.com/washoe to give feedback.  You could win Beats Headphones or a $100 Amazon Gift card.  If you pring the final survey page, you can exchange that at the café for a FREE A La Carte item for $1 or less!  This survey closes on February 14th. v Seniors- Interested in a career in Construction Management??  Stop by the Career Center next Thursday February 9th at lunch to visit with the rep from ASU’s Construction Program!  (Taveira 2/3-2/9)



v Students!  The Marines will be having a “Pull Up Challenge” on Tuesday February 7th during lunch, in front of the Career Center.  Stop by and check it out.  (Taveria 2/3-2/7)



v The Army National Guard will be in front of the Career Center every Wednesday, starting this Wednesday February 1st, to answer all your questions.  Stop on by the Career Center.  (2/6-2/7)



v Seniors!  TMCC will be holding Accuplacer Testing in the Career Center on Thursday February 9th at 12:45.  See Taveira to sign up.  (Taveira 2/3-2/7)



v There will be an FCCLA meeting today at lunch in Room 107.  We will be discussing the upcoming officer elections.  (Gach 2/7)



v The average high school graduation rate for CTE students is 93%, compared to the national graduation rate of 80%.  (Weible 2/6)



v AP Teachers will be holding informational meetings at lunch for two weeks.  If you are signing up for an AP class, please look at the calendar in the front office and plan on attending the meeting.  Teachers will be discussing how the class is organized, expectations, grading, etc.  Please see the front office for the calendar.  (W. v TMCC will be holding an Open House for their Applied Technology center on Wednesday February 15th.  Learn how you can train in automotive/diesel mechanics; welding, machining, robotics, and unmanned aerial systems or Drones.  Panasonic will also be there to recruit for their Panasonic P3 program as well.  See Taveira for more information.  (Taveira 1/31-2/15)



v Did you know that at Spanish Springs, we have the opportunity to sing during the school day? Our choir director, Mr. Hutton, and the 50 students that currently sing in the choirs, want YOU in choir next year- either 3rd period choir for men and women or 7th period women's choir. If you have any questions, you can talk to Mr. Hutton in the Choir Room (143) or your counsellor to take advantage of a great opportunity to make friends, develop your musicianship skills, learn various styles of music and become a better singer! Sign up for choir!  (Hutton 1/30-2/10)

v Spanish Springs JAG is selling Save Around Brand coupon books from now until Spring Break for only $25 each.  Each book contains over $5,000 worth of savings!!  Get them while they last!  (Merrill 1/25-2/17)



v For 9th & 10th graders ONLY: If you are interested in receiving the Seal of Biliteracy on your diploma & transcripts, come see Mrs. Bartoo in Room M-4.  Languages offered include: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Portuguese, Russian & Spanish.  Deadline to sign up & pay will be February 15th.  Max students 30 & the cost is $20.  (Bartoo 1/30-2/15)



v SSHS will be hosting the Wrestling State Tournament this Friday February 10th.  As a result, there will be limited parking on campus this Friday.  (Athletics 2/6-2/9)



v Athletes!!!  If you are interested in trying out for a SPRING SPORT, come to the main office and pick up an Athletic Clearance Packet or a “Quick” form (if already cleared for a fall or winter sport).  Remember you are not able to participate or tryout for a spring sport until you are on the coaches cleared roster!  Official try-outs start Saturday February 25, 2017.  Last Day to turn in a clearance packet is: Friday, February 17th!!!  Here are the spring sports and coaches that are available:

v CTE stands for “Career & Technical Education”.  SSHS offers classes such as Automotive technology, Video, Graphic Design, Animation, Sports Medicine, Culinary, Early Childhood Education, I.T. Essentials & more!  CTSO stands for “Career & Technical Student Organization”.  SSHS offers SkillsUSA, FCCLA & FBLA, which all have a state conference & all have traveled around the country to National Conferences last year!  (Weible 2/6)

v SSHS is a CLOSED CAMPUS.  You are not permitted to go to your car on or off campus.  If you need a place to store school items please see Ms. Ramilo in SRO and get a locker for FREE!  You are not permitted to leave campus without the appropriate off campus sticker.  The consequences range from lunch detention to suspension.  (SRO 1/27-2/3)

v Students!  SSHS has a new tardy policy.  Starting on Thursday January 19th, you will receive a lunch detention after you receive your fourth tardy and for each tardy thereafter.  Parents will be contacted and you will receive additional consequences once you receive your tenth tardy.  This is for ALL CLASSES, not per class! v Cougars Helping Cougars club will be doing pre-sales for Valentine’s Day roses in the morning and at lunch starting Wednesday February 1st.  Roses are $3 and will be delivered on Valentine’s Day during 7th period.  (P. Anderson 1/31-2/2)

v Over the weekend the Cougar ROTC Rifle team won 1st place varsity & 3rd place JV at the Nevada State competition.  They are now 2-time state champions & will be going to Las Vegas for the ROTC regional competition.  (Baumgarten 1/31-2/3)
